Big Green Eco Weekend

Weekend of fun, eco-friendly/green events for all ages – all are welcome!
Learn about our native species, green activities others are doing and how you can help nature and the climate in Ightham
Lots of activities at St Peter’s Church and around the village
Friday 27 September
1-3pm Ightham School Bioblitz in the churchyard
7pm Churchyard Bat Walk + hot chocolate & cookies
Saturday 28 September
10am Parish Council Litter pick meet at Village Hall
Running throughout the day (10am-4pm)
- All-age Bioblitz in the churchyard – identifying our native species of plants and animals
- Coffee and cake available in the church centre
- Activities and displays in the church and church centre including:
- Fancy Tat (upcycled products & ideas)
- Kent Beekeepers Association
- Cubs (making bird boxes)
- Dandelion Time demonstrations
- Also: WI, St Peter’s Church, Ightham School, The Eco Pantry, Greenacres Garden Centre, Ightham Wood Products & TMBC
2pm Farm Walk with Robert Mitchell, meet at Cricket Pavilion, parking -Double Dance field, Mill Lane
Sunday 29 September
10.30am Creationtide service at St George’s Church Wrotham with Fairtrade Stall after the service
12-4pm Ightham Wood Products at Manor Farm, Oldbury Lane – demonstrations, tours and activities with Andrew Chesson
Guided walks:
- Coppicing at 1:30 and 3 pm
- Woodland habitat at 2 and 3:30pm
- We also have a mycologist joining us who will be happy to talk about and identify fungi
Demonstrations:
- Debarking and shaping wood
- Splitting stakes and rails
- Working sawmill
Children:
- Have a go at debarking (this was very popular at the last event)
